東歐國家以前蘇聯(lián)為最早，1965年，俄聯(lián)邦的首條U型玻璃生產(chǎn)線在波爾斯克玻璃廠投產(chǎn)，年產(chǎn)量為3萬m2。隨后，在鮑爾玻璃廠、紅五月玻璃廠、切爾尼亞金玻璃廠、古雪夫玻璃廠、莫斯利石棉隔熱材料聯(lián)合公司等11家企業(yè)先后建起10多條U型玻璃生產(chǎn)線，到了1975年，前蘇聯(lián)的U型玻璃產(chǎn)量已達(dá)到400萬m2。
前民主德國以及羅馬尼亞、匈牙利、南斯拉夫、葡萄牙等國的U型玻璃生產(chǎn)，也大多始于60年代后期。阿爾及利亞奧蘭玻璃公司一窯雙線的U型玻璃于1992年年底投產(chǎn)，開創(chuàng)了非洲U型玻璃生產(chǎn)之先河。
